Important Compliance Notice
This tool uses the Wikipedia API but is NOT affiliated with Wikipedia or Wikimedia Foundation.
1. Service Description
Wikipedia Search Tool is an independent search interface that queries Wikipedia's public API and displays results in a user-friendly format. All content is sourced from Wikipedia and remains the property of Wikipedia/Wikimedia Foundation.
2. Wikipedia API Compliance
We comply with Wikipedia's API terms through the following measures:
3. Content Usage
All article snippets, titles, and metadata are displayed under Wikipedia's Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 License.
When you click "Read More" on any search result, you are taken directly to Wikipedia.org where Wikipedia's own terms apply.
4. Rate Limiting
To ensure fair usage and comply with Wikipedia's policies, we implement strict rate limiting:
- Maximum 100 requests per IP address every 15 minutes
- Requests exceeding this limit receive HTTP 429 "Too Many Requests" status
- Rate limits reset automatically after 15 minutes
This prevents abuse while maintaining service quality for all users.
5. Data Privacy
We do NOT engage in the following practices:
- Store your search queries or personal data
- Store Wikipedia content on our servers
- Track individual users across sessions
- Sell or share user data with third parties
- Use cookies for tracking or advertising
We only temporarily process your queries to fetch results from Wikipedia's API. For details, see our Privacy Policy.
